System Effectiveness Audit

RM and Pricing systems exist in a dynamic environment. Their sophistication (and complexity) mean that their effectiveness can be very sensitive to even small changes in this environment. It is also quite common that a system has not been implemented correctly in the first place, because at the time of go-live, other priorities and lack of understanding stood in the way of the long and hard objective look that's needed to fine-tune such a system.

Either way, Pieter Dorhout Consulting can evaluate the possible room for improvement in system performance, where system refers to the combination of software application and (business) users in this case.

If any of the questions below make you feel a bit uncomfortable, then contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and find out how we would go about answering them:

  • Does the system interpret all data correctly and is data quality sufficiently high?
  • Which 'best practices' are applied by the users, and do these result in cutting corners?
  • Do users have (timely) access to all relevant reports, and if so, do they use these correctly?
  • Are the estimates of price elasticities still representative for the current market conditions?
  • Has the retail landscape changed since you last audited your system? Are changes to the way products are marketed significant for the algorithms in the RM and Pricing system?
  • Is forecast accuracy improving or degrading? If so, why?
  • And perhaps most importantly: Does the system generate the benefits originally envisaged?

Although solving the problems that may be uncovered in the course of answering these questions may not always be easy, understanding them is already very valuable. And in our experience, this understanding can often be achieved with relatively little effort.
