About PDC

Pieter Dorhout Consulting’s mission is to bring sound and sophisticated economics to the very heart of all tactical decision-making that affects the balance between supply and demand, and thereby a company’s ability to create real value for its shareholders, its clients and for society as a whole.

We do this by exploiting opportunities to improve all aspects of commercial decision-making, from its underlying logic and the use of information & information technology, to human expertise and behavioural incentives.

We pay particular attention to the interdependencies between business processes across departments, and facilitate the dialogue between line management, mathematicians and software architects.

Pieter Dorhout - Biography

Pieter holds two MSc degrees from Erasmus University Rotterdam (Financial Economics) and the London School of Economics (Accounting and Finance).

His first job was as a financial controller at the Air Cargo division of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (1996-1998).

Pieter then joined DFI-Aeronomics in London, a boutique consultancy specialised in Revenue Management. When he left to found Pieter Dorhout Consulting in 2010, DFI-Aeronomics had been taken over by Manugistics and then JDA, both supply chain software providers.

As an independent consultant, Pieter has served more than thirty clients in Passenger Rail (Russian Rail, First Rail Holdings, Abellio, EastCoast, Eurostar, ViaRail), Tour, Cruise & Park Operators (Thomas Cook, DER Touristik, Carnival Cruises, Diamond Resorts, CenterParcs, Butlins, Apollo Travel) and Air Cargo (China Airlines, SAS, EgyptAir). PDC also gained a lot of experience in bringing RM to relatively new industries like Ocean Shipping (Maersk), Media (Global Radio), Car Parking (Den Bosch and Hengelo city councils) and Bed Banks (Hotelbeds)

At JDA, Pieter initiated the development of the first comprehensive RM&P system for Tour Operators, for which TUI UK was the launch client. Several other tour operators also adopted this system, which necessitated extensive modification and configuration.

The main other industries Pieter worked in during his time at JDA include Air Cargo (DHL Aviation, British Airways, Swisscargo), Ferries (WG&A Superferry) and Passenger Airlines (El Al).

Pieter’s responsibility on those projects varied enormously, from project management to training,

and from business process restructuring and software design to account management. On some of these projects, he worked alongside software providers like JDA, Revenue Analytics, Sabre and Pros.

Pieter has long been an active member of the European RM&P professionals’ community: He regularly chairs conferences (e.g. for Eye for Travel and Terrapinn) and sits on the committee of RMAPI (http://rmapi.org/), an RM&P practitioners’ organisation dedicated to sharing RM&P- related knowledge. From 2013 to 2016, he was a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Revenue and Pricing Management.
